Two Deadlines: (RECEIVE) & (ONLINE)
Early Deadline: December 22, 2011
Second Deadline: January 9, 2012

"fashionSCAPES"
Arts & Fashion Week
Fashion Art Toronto
Toronto, ON
Canada
Festival Dates: 24-28 April 2012

In its seventh year, Toronto Arts & Fashion Week has a mandate of showcasing artistic disciplines rooted in fashion and their exploration of the notion of clothing and the body in today's time.

The festival emphasizes this mandate through the showcase of fiber based work, photography,  installation, film, video, mixed media, performance, installation and fashion design, in an effort to push forward and redefine our perception of the fashion phenomenon.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

Toronto Arts & Fashion Week invites fashion designers and artists to submit proposals for the 2012 programming. Any mediums, materials, messages, visual presentations and performance used to deal with fashion in a new, exciting and unorthodox way are all encouraged to be explored.

Submitted proposals should reflect on the notion of clothing, the body, fashion and the 2012 thematic focus 'fashionSCAPES'

2012 THEMATIC APPROACH:
The 2012 theme fashionSCAPES mirrors the notion of landscapes; vast, unique, seasonal and ever changing. Artists are invited to respond to fashionSCAPES by investigating one of four sub themes set out for each evening by the festival; land, city, body, future.

Deadline: December 4, 2011 (ONLINE)

2011 Annual Juried Exhibition
Center on Contemporary Art

Seattle, WA
December 29, 2011 - March 18, 2012

From December 29, 2011 - March 18, 2012, CoCA will present its 22nd annual juried exhibition seeking work from emerging as well as established artists in a wide variety of visual media. While there is no theme this year as such, we're hunting for work that experiments and explores in general, crossing disciplinary boundaries, challenging established notions of time and space, cultural production, and the objet d'art itself.

CoCA has presented the Annual since 1989, each time inviting an independent juror to select the work from among the entries received. For this year's 22nd anniversary of the show, CoCA is proud to have Gary Hill as juror.

Artists in any region and any country are welcome to submit. Two-dimensional, three-dimensional and multi-media work will be considered. A $500 first prize and a $250 second prize will be awarded by the juror, as well as up to two "honorable mentions" featured on CoCA's website. A catalog of the show will feature artists' statements, biographies, and images, as well as an introductory essay by Gary Hill. In addition to having all participating artists archived on CoCA's website, there will also be an opportunity to place work in CoCA's new online store.

Entry Fee: $15 (US) (PayPal)

Applications are electronic and can be made entirely online at http://www.cocaseattle.org/submission.php?key=11

World of Threads Festival:Fibre Inspired

Deadline: January 31, 2012 (RECEIVE) or (Hand Delivery) or (EMAIL)

Fibre Inspired
World of Threads Festival

Oakville, Ontario
Canada

The Common Thread International exhibitions are the flagship shows of the World of Threads Festival. The intention is to bring international contemporary fibre art to Oakville and the Toronto area and highlight the strength of our local artists.

Artists from around the world are invited to submit to this Call for Submission for a “Fibre Inspired” Exhibition.

Festival Curator, Gareth Bate, has observed a trend in international fibre art towards work that engages fibre techniques or the history of fibre arts, yet is made of non-fibre materials such as paint, plastics and found objects, etc.

He will be curating an exhibition that specifically features work that is NOT made of fibre materials but instead uses other media. Work can be made of anything (including performance and video) but is should be evident how it relates to the theme of “Fibre Inspired”. This could involve an engagement with sewing or tapestry techniques, or the overall effect could resemble fibre arts in some way. We are open-minded.

If you have any questions contact Curator: Gareth Bate at contact@garethbate.com

Eligibility
•All Work submitted must be available to exhibit in Oakville during November 2012
•All Work should be made after Sept. 2009 (the date of our last festival)

Generally fibre art is made from perishable materials that use traditional techniques that include, sewing, tapestry and papermaking. However, more and more artists are using synthetic materials.

Call for Collage-Based Work

Deadline: December 31, 2011 (ONLINE)

Call for Collage-Based Work
Thompson Gallery
The Cambridge School of Weston

Weston, MA
Three exhibitions: 2012/2013

2012 marks the centennial of the appearance of collage in painting. In that time, collage has become ubiquitous within contemporary art and culture, and its myriad applications have arguably expanded its original definition to become the most inclusive of artistic processes. Collage at 100 is a three-part exhibition series that opens in September of 2012 and runs through June of 2013. All media considered. The series aims to explore collage within contemporary art practices as much as it endeavors to examine the conceptual and political manifestations of this evolving artistic strategy.

Eligibility
All works must be original and collage-based—anything that involves either an analog or virtual combination of images and/or objects. Glue and fasteners of any type are anticipated, however, these per se are not a prerequisite. All media will be considered. The gallery reserves the right to reject work that differs from submitted images. Preference will be given to any work created in the last three years.

Each entrant may submit up to ten individual works total, and may, if need be, submit up to five detail images per entry for communicating alternate views — in cases of sculpture or installation entries, etc.

How to Apply (truncated)
1. Only online applications will be accepted.
2. The Thompson Gallery uses Entrythingy,® a digital call for entries system.
3. There is no application fee.

Also, the Festival was named the 2006 Event of the Year by the Cedar Valley Tourism Bureaus.

The Modern Quilt Guild Showcase

Deadline: March 2, 2012 (ONLINE)

The Modern Quilt Guild Showcase
International Quilt Festival

Houston, Texas
October 26 – November 4, 2012*
*Additional exhibition dates listed below

International Quilt Festival will feature quilts in a special exhibit, The Modern Quilt Guild Showcase.

Modern quilting is a new twist on the traditional art of quilting that is rapidly gaining interest from the next wave of quilters.

Modern quilts and quilters:
  • Make primarily functional quilts but place a large emphasis on the design and art of quilt making
  • Use asymmetry in quilt design
  • Rely less on repetition and on the interaction of quilt block motifs
  • May contain reinterpreted traditional blocks
  • Embrace simplicity and minimalism
  • Utilize alternative block structures or lack of visible block structure
  • Incorporate increased use of negative space
  • Are inspired by modern art and architecture
  • Frequently use improvisational piecing
  • Contain bold colors, on trend color combinations and graphic prints
  • Often use gray and white as neutrals
  • Reflect an increased use of solid fabrics
  • Focus on finishing quilts on home sewing machines

This exhibit will premiere at International Quilt Market and Festival, October 26–November 4, 2012. We would also like to retain quilts for possible exhibition at International Quilt Festival/Cincinnati in April 2013, and our summer International Quilt Festival/Long Beach in July 2013.

We would like to invite members from any of the Modern Quilt Guilds around the world to be considered for inclusion in the new exhibit.

You may submit a total of five (5) quilts for our consideration. We require that quilts be at least 36” on each side. There is no maximum size limit.

Completed submissions with visuals must be received online by Friday, March 2, 2012. You will be notified no later than Friday, March 30, 2012.

Exhibit Concept
“Warps and Wefts” the exhibit, is a challenge to all Artists, not just Weavers, to create a work utilizing the interlacing of lengthwise materials (warp) with crosswise materials (weft). It is a call to interpret, to adapt, and to merge this warp and weft structure into your own artistic concept.

This juried exhibit is open to all artists. All entries must be original work created by the interlacing of warp and weft, and not have been shown at previous ‘Warp and Weft’ exhibits at Gualala Arts.
