MORE THAN FIBER: A CREATIVE APPROACH TO MATERIAL
Fiber art is distinct in its many applications and influences. Historically fiber work was considered a home craft and utilitarian. Today’s artists have stretched the definition in many directions, discovering and adapting its uses in extraordinary ways. Mixed mediums that have become familiar in contemporary art are now relevant to fiber art. Three dimensional work and the use of metal fibers have come together to create a new concept of sculpture. Paper has brought its texture to many forms of fiber art. All modes of fiber work, traditional and interpretative, secure the special place it has always had – a hands on human element referencing historical content and contemporary thought.

ELIGIBILITY
