The Percent for Art law in Maine reserves one percent of the construction funds for all state-funded building projects to provide artwork for the public areas of these buildings.

The new Brewer Pre K - 8 School is a LEED registered building anticipated to open in 2011. The school will consolidate the middle school and all elementary schools in Brewer in a facility enrolling over 1000 students. The school is nestled in a residential area in Brewer.

The committee is looking to commission one or more artists to address the interior of the building with sculptural elements. Areas to be addressed include the two-story portions of the Main Entrance lobby, Media Center/ Library, and Performing Arts Center lobby, all with 18ft ceilings. However, any proposal that addresses any predominantly public area of the school will be considered. The committee is interested in work that is imaginative, engaging, and interesting that will foster a positive sense of place and help to make a large building feel more welcoming to students.

The committee has assessed the site and has chosen any or all of the following potential areas to be addressed, or other public areas of the facility:

Interior of the Main Entrance lobby of the school
Interior of the Media Center/ Library
Interior of the Performing Arts lobby
