The Sheffield Artist’s Book prize and exhibition is open to makers of artists’ books in any format and from anywhere in the world. No definition is being given of what constitutes an artist’s book beyond clarifying that the prize is not concerned with books about art or artists, but books as art.
The Sheffield Artist’s Book Prize is organized and hosted by Bank Street Arts in Sheffield. The exhibition is being staged as part of the Off The Shelf festival, presenting a different slant on the possibilities and realisations of the book format and as a contrast in ‘editorial scale’ to what is on offer elsewhere during the festival.

The SABP is open to artists/makers living and working anywhere in the world. Artists may submit one entry only. In the case of joint authorship, each author may submit a second work of individual authorship. Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and the date of completion must be clearly stated on the application form.

There is no entry fee.

Bank Street Arts will exercise reasonable care of works entered in the SAB Prize but will not accept responsibility for loss or damage, caused while works are in its keeping or in transit. Insurance remains the responsibility of the entrant at all times.

All entries will be acknowledged but only by e-mail.

All decisions regarding the exhibition and prize will be at the sole discretion of Bank Street Arts.

BSA will award at least one prize of £150 in cash.

A call for 2D and 3D submissions for a group exhibition featuring the works of the Top 4 emerging artists selected via the votes cast by art enthusiasts from around the world during "CURATE THIS!". Of the top 10 artists selected, the top 4 artists who have received the highest number of votes will have their works exhibited at 'FOUR', the gallery's 3rd international contemporary art exhibition opening August 2, 2008 at BECA gallery located at 527 Saint Joseph Street, New Orleans in the heart of the New Orleans warehouse arts district. The opening of the exhibit, 'FOUR', coincides with White Linen Night, the largest annual visual arts event in New Orleans.

Abecedarian Gallery is located in Denver, CO. The gallery presents local and national artists working in contemporary book arts and printmaking. It is in the heart of the nationally known Santa Fe Art District and is the only gallery specializing in artists' books in the area. Abecedarian Gallery is owned by book artist and curator Alicia Bailey.

an invitational exhibition featuring book arts crafted by artists who utilize fiber materials and techniques in their creation of artists' books.

Submissions should include:
5 to 10 jpeg images of up to five pieces with a corresponding list of the works giving dimensions, medium and retail price; a resume (pdf or word), artist's statement and contact information. Label each image file with artists' last name, title of piece, with a letter or number as needed.

Works must be submitted via either ftp upload or via Instructions outlined in the prospectus. If this process isn't possible, CD's shall be accepted sent to
Abecedarian, PO Box 200984, Denver, CO 80220.

Sales - Selected work must be for sale. Work is sold on consignment. The artist receives 60% of the sale price. Sale proceeds will be paid to the artist within 30 days of the close of the show.

Publicity - Press kits will be sent to local and regional traditional media. Online announcements will be made to all applicable online sites and list serves. The exhibit will be announced in the gallery's monthly e-mail newsletter and website. A PDF catalog will be created and be available via the gallery website. An artists' reception will be held on Friday, August 1, 2008.

Responsibility for Loss or Damage - Artwork is insured for 60% of its retail value against loss/theft/damage beyond exhibition wear and tear while on premises.

Cost to Artists - There is no application fee for this exhibit.

This exhibition will explore both traditional and contemporary works in fiber.


  • The exhibition is open to any artist 18 years and older.

  • All submissions must be original in content, concept, and design and executed in a fiber arts technique or process.

  • All submissions must have been completed within the last five years and be available for the complete run of the exhibition.

Artists may submit a maximum of FOUR works on a CD for consideration.

Joanie San Chirico is a full-time studio artist and has exhibited extensively throughout the country. San Chirico is also an independent curator.

GeraldineVelasquez is an artist, educator, author, researcher and photographer. She is currently a Professor of Art and Design and former Chair of the Art Department at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. She is also an expert in contemporary American crafts and teaches surface design.

The Monmouth Museum provides a printed invitation, e-mail and press release announcements to media and members, and an exhibition opening reception.

The Monmouth Museum encourages sale of exhibited art work.The Museum will collect the purchase price for all work, take a 20% sales commission and issue a check for the remainder to the artist at the close of the exhibition.

Common Thread is the flagship exhibition of the World of Threads Festival. This juried exhibition attracts diverse entries from across Canada and around the world.

Common Thread is open to all practitioners of textile media and technique.
It celebrates both tradition and innovation in textile arts. Traditional technique-based textile forms are exhibited beside contemporary, conceptual textile art. This is an opportunity to provide exposure for emerging and established artists to showcase their work in this unique international Canadian fibre arts festival.

What may be submitted:
Traditional and contemporary experimental approaches to fibre including wall hangings, sculpture, installation, quilting, hooking, lace-making, knitting, weaving, embroidery, crocheting, paper-making, felting, stitched canvas, mixed media, soft sculpture, wearable art, recycling materials, plastics manipulation, basketry, conceptual work and performance.

* All works must be textile and/or fibre based through materials or techniques.
Commercial kits and patterns are not eligible.
* All work must be completed after 2006, of a reasonable size and weight and
completely ready to install. Special installation/display instructions must accompany entry form.

The Salon des Refusés is a historic event created by Napoleon III in 1863 to exhibit controversial works rejected by the Paris Salon. Works not selected for a juried show may be exhibited for additional education and enjoyment. In this tradition, applicants whose work is not accepted to the Common Thread 2009 will be invited to participate in the Salon des Refusés. This exhibition will run for the duration of the festival. All the same terms and conditions apply.

This program provides support to visual artists who have a professional independent art practice for the creation/production of new work or the completion of works in progress. Funds are intended to cover direct costs of creation/production, subsistence and materials. Visual Arts includes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, printmaking, bookworks, performance art, installation and fine crafts.

The program provides two levels of support to artists at varying points in their career:

LEVEL ONE: $3,000 – for emerging artists in the early stages of their professional career, who have produced a small body of work, and achieved some local recognition and/or have limited public exhibition experience. Generally, they have had between 2 and 7 years of professional arts practice.

LEVEL TWO: $5,000 or $8,000 – for mid-career and established artists. Artists in this level may choose which amount is most appropriate for their needs.

Mid-career artists are past the early stages of their careers, have produced a reasonable body of work and have received recognition outside the local community. Generally, they have had between 8 and 14 years of professional arts practice.

Established artists have produced an extensive body of work and have achieved national or international recognition. Generally, they have had at least 15 years of professional arts practice.

General eligibility requirements
Applicants must be professional artists and meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (Landed Immigrants) or have an application pending for Permanent Resident status and, if requested, be able to provide documentation to verify this.

  • Applicants must currently maintain a residence or artist’s studio in the City of Toronto and must have done so for at least one year prior to the application deadline.

  • Applicants must live/work in Toronto for at least 8 months of the year.

  • Applicants must have completed basic training (not necessarily in a formal educational institution.)

  • Applicants must have spent a minimum of one year working on and developing an independent art practice after completing full-time studies.

  • Full-time undergraduate students are not eligible.

  • Applicants must retain full copyright, financial and creative control.

  • Applicants may receive funding through TAC’s Visual Artists or Media Artists Programs only once every two years.

The Art Kudos competition is an annual international juried competition that serves to recognize and honor excellence in the visual arts. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from world-wide exposure in an online-only exhibition ( and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work.

The competition is open to all artists 18 or older. Publishers, galleries, agents, and collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of artists. Drawings, paintings, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, ceramics, and mixed media are eligible. Media not accepted: video/film, installations, wearable art (clothing or jewelry). All works submitted must be original in design and concept, and may not be done under supervision. Entries previously submitted for the Art Kudos competition are ineligible. Please do not submit images which would be inappropriate for general audiences.

Entry Requirements: Artists must submit a completed entry form, images of up to 3 works, and entry fee of $30 US dollars.

Juror of Awards:
PANG-CHIEH HSU, a recipient of the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship and an instructor at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Cash awards totaling $3,400 will be distributed as follows:
Best of Show - $1,200;
Second Place - $800;
Third Place - $500;
Award of Distinction - $300;

No commissions are taken for sales generated via the exhibition, and works submitted do not have to be available for sale. Sales will be encouraged, however, and artists will have the option to display their contact information beside their images.

Artists may submit up to 3 works of art. For sculptural or three-dimensional pieces, 2 images may be submitted for each work. Artists may submit 35mm slides, photos, or digital files (preferred). Please do not send originals.

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is requesting submissions from artists and curators for The LAB. The LAB is a contemporary art space within the Art Gallery designed specifically for presenting challenging and dynamic experimental projects. The Gallery welcomes all forms of media, performance or innovative museological projects. Projects may also involve the Gallery’s permanent collection. Projects must be designed specifically for The LAB; existing projects will not be considered.

Proposals must include the following:

  1. A brief, one page description of the proposed project (400 words maximum)

  2. 10-20 images of related previous work, CD or slides accepted

  3. Detailed budget (include any special equipment needs, travel fees, accommodation and material costs to a maximum of $2000)

  4. Current CV

  5. Self addressed stamped envelope for return of materials

Proposals must include a diagram/installation plan of the project in the LAB space. A map of the Gallery is available on the website. Check your budget carefully; make sure you have included (and researched costs for) all elements of the project, including your travel and shipping, technicians, special equipment rentals (ie: video projectors, computers, DVD players, Ipod etc) and materials. Artists will receive project assistance of up to $2,000, as well as CARFAC exhibition fees.

PLEASE NOTE: Following this years Call for Submissions we will be changing to a bi-annual Call for Submissions. The next call after this June 6, 2008 deadline will be Summer 2010.

This projected was developed in conjunction with the Yokohama International Quilt Exhibition, which saw 70,000 visitors in 2007, towards the exchange of quilts (30 coming from Japan) to celebrate the 100th anniversary and promote Prince Edward Island and Anne of Green Gables. Quilting is very popular in Japan and a strong motivator for travel, and upcoming exposure in the popular, Patchwork Quilt Tsushin Magazine will further increase awareness of Prince Edward Island and 100th Anniversary of the publication of the novel Anne of Green Gables in Japan.

Tourism PEI is inviting quilts and other two dimensional textile works to participate in the fall show and accepting work in the themes of: Kindred Spaces - maximum perimeter 120 inches; work must be an interpretation based on a line, chapter, or paragraph of a Lucy Maud Montgomery writing; or, 100 Years of Anne - maximum perimeter 120 inches; work must be a reflection of Anne of Green Gables.

The quilt showcase will be held on the Island from September 12 to October 12 and a tour group from Patchwork Quilt Tsushin in Japan will travel to PEI to see the exhibition here September 13 - 17, 2008. Artquest, in partnership with ACAVA, is running its 3-month visual arts studio residency in Berlin from 15 September - 19 December 2008.

This is an exciting opportunity for a London-based visual arts/crafts practitioner at any stage of their career to live and make new work in one of Europe’s most dynamic and exciting cities.
Artquest / ACAVA will provide a free live/work studio for 3 months, return air fare, a £600 bursary and £100 towards artists materials.

There will be no pressure to produce a body of work as a result of this residency.
The selected artists sole obligation will be to write a short email diary / blog each month about their experiences. This could include updates on work produced, galleries visited, or a general overview of life in Berlin and could incorporate images and / or photographs.

About the studioThe selected artist will be based in a building shared with 40 local artists who are members of the Milchhof art group. It comprises a studio space (398 sqft), basic living space with cooking facilities and a mezzanine platform sleeping area. There is a shower and toilets across the corridor, which are shared with the other artists in the building. The live /work space is situated in Mitte, at the heart of the Berlin art scene.


This residency is only available to artists living and working in London. Artists can work in any medium and be at any stage of their careers - from recent graduates to established artists with decades of experience.

Pyramid Atlantic offers fully equipped studios for papermaking, etching, lithography, relief, screen-printing, letterpress, and digital printing. Keyholder residency opportunities support artists who have an interest in printmaking, papermaking and book arts and whose talent deserves to be recognized. The artists provide their own materials. Keyholder resident artists work within the schedule of workshops and scheduled studio activities. They are enriched by the supportive, creative community comprised of artist-staff, interns, other visiting artists, and the public.

Keyholder Resident Artists receive:
• 24-hour studio access, but must be willing to work around scheduled workshops on the weekends and evenings
• storage space
• basic supplies (solvents, cleaners)
• 20% discount on all workshops
• inclusion in Pyramid Atlantic’s permanent collection
• opportunity to show new work in exhibitions and public events promotion in the Pyramid’s newsletter and website

Artists of all career-stages--emerging, mid-career, and mature artists--are encouraged to apply for these opportunities. Three artists are selected twice a year for a two-five month residency opportunity (fall and spring). Two artists are selected for the summer months of July and August. Only legal US residents may apply.

QEST - Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust

Awards for craftsmen and women of all ages to help them further their careers

QEST was established in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Warrant Holders Association and the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Since 1991 the Trust has awarded over £1,100,000 to 174 craftspeople aged between 17 and 50 plus for study, training and work experience.

The Scholarships are awarded to fund further study, training and practical experience for craftsmen and women who want to improve their craft and trade skills. Scholarships may not be used for acquiring equipment, premises or for other business set-up costs.

Each Scholarship is in the range of £2,000 and £15,000. The size of each award depends on how much funding is needed for a project. Scholarship winners also receive an emblazoned certificate.

The type of crafts covered include modern and traditional crafts. Scholarship winners have included: an antiques restorer, calligraphers, book conservators, potters, silversmiths, upholsterers and many more.

There is no age limit. But you need to demonstrate you already have a high level of skill and are firmly committed to your craft or trade.

You must live and work permanently in the UK to be eligible for a Scholarship. You do not have to be connected with firms or individuals holding Royal Warrants.

QEST is looking for well thought out proposals which will contribute to the excellence of modern and traditional British crafts.

On the application form you need to explain clearly why the proposed training will improve your skills and what you expect to achieve as a result. You also need to give a careful estimate of the full cost of the training you would like to undertake.

Scholarships are awarded twice a year. Completed forms for Summer 2008 Scholarships must be received not later than 6 June 2008.

The show is open to artists who live or work within the USA; all structures of artist’s book, unique or limited edition, are eligible, as long as the size when displayed is under 30 inches. The entry fee is $15 for SDBA members, and $25 for non-members.

Juror: Erika Torri, Executive Director of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla. The Athenaeum hosts a juried book arts show every other year, and under Erika’s direction has built a world-class collection of artist’s books.

Images: Digital images in JPEG (.jpg) format on a compact disk (CD), which will not be returned, are preferred. DVD discs will not be accepted. While the submission of jpeg images is strongly encouraged, slides are acceptable.

The Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts announces a call for entries for our Fifth International Book and Paper Arts Triennial Exhibition. We are looking for the best artists’ books, editioned books, fine bindings, paper sculpture, papermaking, printing, decorative paper, calligraphy and lettering produced during the previous two years. All media which can possibly be used in conjunction with the aforementioned are eligible, with the exception of commercially produced trade books. Blind jurying will be done by three book and paper arts professionals from a variety of geographic locales. There will be a catalogue produced of this year’s exhibition, which will take place here in the Center’s spacious galleries from July 25 to September 13, 2008.

Autism is a growing epidemic. 1 in 150 children in the United States is estimated to have an autism spectrum disorder. The second annual Art Now for Autism will be held in October 2008. Artists are being asked to donate a small work of art which will be sold online in October 2008 to coincide with the Washington, DC Walk Now for Autism. All money raised will go to Autism Speaks.

The Details
This year we have two different calls for art. Both will be a part of the October 2008 show. We have the open call for any fine arts and crafts and a new puzzle pin call. Please consider both calls!

Open Call for Art
All art is welcome. Painting, drawing, photography, collage, mixed media, book arts, jewelry, fiber, crafts, etc. Artwork does not need to be related to autism. Everything -- except that which may be considered pornographic or offensive -- is welcome. Since works will be mailed, please help us keep costs down by submitting a small piece. Try not to go beyond 18 inches in any direction. Frames and mattes are not necessary. Remember to include a price for your piece.

Puzzle Pin Project
The puzzle piece is a symbol used by the autism community. You might have seen the puzzle ribbon or the blue puzzle piece lapel pin worn by celebrities. We would like to take this idea and add an artsy flair. You can alter a puzzle piece or make one from scratch. Paint, draw, collage, whatever you do best then turn it into a pin. It can have an autism theme or anything you like. We hope to post some samples soon! The pins will be sold for a donation of $25 each.

The Sale
Art work will be available online during the month of October. Any unsold work will be returned to the artist in November. All money will be donated to Autism Speaks through its Walk Now for Autism.

We also hope to have a display table at the Washington, DC Walk Now for Autism on November 8th.

All art work must be received by September 10, 2008. This will give us time to create the online exhibit, publicity postcards and other materials, and new items in the Cafe Press shop. The show and sale will in October at

An international jury, designated by the organizers, will make its selection after carefully studying the files of the contesters. The jury’s decisions are final. The jury reserves the right to refuse any work that does not match the visuals submitted previously.

The jury’s selection criteria are originality, technical expertise and relevance to the theme.

  • All techniques are accepted, as long as they match the fundamental structural characteristics of a patchwork or are related to art quilt.

  • Compulsory dimension : 100x100 cm (39x39 inches) with a tolerance of +/- 10%.

  • Quilts must have been completed in 2007/2008. They must have never been exhibited outside your residential area nor published in a catalogue, book or magazine.

  • You may apply for one or two works.

A full colour catalogue will be published for the 14th European Patchwork Meeting. Entry into the competition automatically grants copyright permission for the image of the quilt to be used for publications and in advertising and/or publicity for the exhibition, including use on appropriate web pages. The quilt artist retains copyright to the quilt.

You may choose to sell your quilt. The selling price indicated on the registration form should include 20% commission for the European Patchwork Meeting.

International juried competition to celebrate the anniversary of the Swiss Patchwork and Quilters Guild (patCHquilt).

Theme: Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow

The short history of patCHquilt shows how fast things change. Our personal lives, our working lives change constantly, often for the better, sometimes for the worse. What has changed in your own guilds in the last few years? What does the future have in store for you? Let your thoughts wander and be creative. We are looking forward to many applications. You do not need to be a member of patCHquilt to participate.

  • There is only one category. We welcome traditional, contemporary and innnovative works.

  • The competition is open to anyone interested. You do not have to be a member of patCHquilt.

  • The quilt has to be made especially for this competition and has never been shown in any other exhibitions, book, magazine or the web. Kits and quilts made in a workshop will not be accepted, and will be disqualified.

  • All kinds of materials can be used but have to be of flexible nature. The piece of art has to ahve at least 2 layers. Embellishments such as pearls may be used. Please avoid sharpe edges.

  • Every participant may enter two quilts, but each piece of work has to reflect the prescribed theme.

Art Quilts XIII: Lucky Break

Art Quilts XIII: Lucky Break will continue the tradition of presenting the latest trends in the art-quilting world. This year's exhibition will run November 7 through December 31, 2008, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, and is once again expected to offer visitors one of the finest collections of art quilts in the Southwest.

Art Quilts has grown from a local and regional quilt show to a respected vehicle for contemporary works. The exhibition draws entries from around the world and allows thousands of visitors each year to experience quilting as an art form.

The exhibition is produced by Diane Howell and is overseen and installed by the City of Chandler's Vision Gallery staff.

THEME: Lucky Break

The theme encourages works that present lucky breaks in your life or work as a quilt artist. The goal is to create a retrospective of today's art-quilting world with all of its diversity in theme, approaches and materials.


Quilt artists who want to share their art with a broad-based arts audience are invited to enter. Two or more people may have worked on the pieces. The works must not have been previously displayed at the Chandler Center for the Arts or other downtown Chandler venue. Works must have been completed within the last three years. Wearable art and works less than 10" wide will not be accepted.

  1. There is a non-refundable fee of $25 to enter up to 3 works. No entries will be considered without payment of this fee.

  2. For each $25 fee, you may submit up to 3 works on slides, on a CD or digitally via email.
